HYPNOTIZE THE WEIGHT AWAY AT SEMINARS

By Kimberly Hayes Taylor

Can hypnosis help you lose weight?

Rena Greenberg promises it can. The founder and CEO of Wellness Seminars, Inc. travels to hospitals around the nation conducting hypnosis seminars. So far, she says, she's hypnotized more than 100,000 people, and some have lost as much as 75 to 100 pounds without dieting.

“Consciously, we all know what we need to do to lose weight,” says Greenberg, who once struggled with her own weight and a sugar addiction. “But subconsciously we give in to overeating, binging, snacking and emotional eating.”

The author of “The Right Weigh: Six Steps to Permanent Weight Loss Used by More Than 100,000 People” (Hay House, $14.95) says hypnosis puts people in a deeply relaxed state, activating the imagination and making them more susceptible to suggestion. In that state, she says, people can install new thoughts and beliefs to help them change their lives.

“All of a sudden, we don't see ourselves as fat and unhealthy,” Greenberg says. “We're no longer on a diet, forcing ourselves to eat certain foods, dragging ourselves to the gym. We think about ourselves as a thin person does naturally.”
