<p>Do your habitual thoughts move you forward in a positive direction or do they keep you stagnant and spiraling in addiction: to food, work, bad habits, judging others, shopping, drinking, smoking or drugs?<br />
Isn’t it time to take control of your life and your thought habits? Though thoughts may seem innocent, that’s an illusion.  Repetitive thoughts are never without consequence, because all action is preceded by thought.  </p>
<p>One random thought that is not fueled with emotion is, indeed, harmless.  But recurring beliefs are what shape our destiny.  This may not always be obvious because the creative nature of our thoughts is generally not instantaneous.  It can take weeks, months or years for us to reap what we have sown.  </p>
<p>Nevertheless, it is the thoughts you think and your subsequent actions that determine to a large extent your weight, your health, your bank account and the quality of your relationships.</p>
<p><strong>Your energy is reflected in the thoughts that you are thinking.</strong></p>
<p>Tired, sluggish, weak or negative energy is a direct result of the repetition of harmful thoughts.  The cycle is perpetuated by the fact that people can “read your thoughts” since they naturally tune into your energy, subconsciously.  If our energy is dark or sticky, people tend to either move away from us or react negatively.</p>
<p>Though being treated in a disrespectful, hurtful way could serve as a catalyst to examine our own thinking and behavior, often we miss the opportunity to self-reflect.   </p>
<p>Instead when we don’t like how people behave, our instinct is to take that as confirmation that our negative perception of feeling unsafe or unloved in one way or another, is accurate. Sadly, when the world gives us what we don’t want, our judgmental, circular, unproductive thinking frequently feels justified.</p>
<p><strong>Thoughts Are Habits</strong></p>
<p>Our thought processes are steeped in habit so it takes a commitment to shift them.  Think about how challenging it can be to simply start driving a new route to work everyday when there’s a detour.</p>
<p>The same principle holds true whenever we embark on an effort to make any personal changes.  The subconscious mind loves routine. It wants to do things the way you’ve always done them.</p>
<p>If your mind tends to be critical and self-deprecating or judgmental, you are going to feel a strong impulse to continue in the same way.</p>
<p><strong>Breaking the Cycle of Emotional Pain</strong></p>
<p>When we experience an unpleasant interaction or reality, whether that be in our relationship or waking up to realize that we are 30 lbs. overweight, there are three steps to breaking the cycle of negative thinking: self-examination, self-honesty and a commitment to lift up your own thinking. </p>
<p><strong>Step One:  Self-Examination</strong></p>
<p>Socrates said: Know Thyself.  That means being able to see all parts of ourselves, including the parts of our self that we aren’t particularly proud of. Awareness is key because most of the behaviors that hurt ourselves and others are done automatically without conscious intention.  </p>
<p>Creating change in your life starts with awareness of your own thoughts and feelings, without judgment.</p>
<p>As you begin to examine yourself more closely, you’ll notice that every action you take, every word you speak, follows a thought.  Your thoughts come from one of two places:  your ego, chattering mind or your higher, wiser heart self.   Depending on which thought you act on, you will get a completely different result.</p>
<p>Because everything we say or do more than three times tends to become habitual, the thoughts you choose are extremely important, because they paint the entire landscape of your life—inside and out.<br />
When your habits are taking you down a path that leads to an undesirable outcome, most likely the source of your thinking is your ego.</p>
<p><strong>The Ego Chattering Mind</strong></p>
<p>This reactive place is concerned with only one thing: your safety. Unfortunately, it has a very limited field of perception.  It perceives danger, often, where there is none. The reactive mind takes everything personally and interprets most things and people in its environment as a threat. </p>
<p>Its ruling principle is that you’re not good enough, you don’t have enough and you won’t be enough.  Ironically, its defense is attempting to prove to the world that you are enough.  </p>
<p>It tends to feel separate from the rest of creation. Even when it does do for others, its motivation and intention is to get something back, and that’s why the ego needs for people to take note of how “good” it is and all that it does for others.  The ego is based in lack and limitation.</p>
<p>The ego mind is also very cunning—it has a way of convincing you that’s its reactivity is justified and that you’re not getting your fair share in life.  </p>
<p>One way to step up to the ego mind while you are in the throws of an emotional reaction is to remind yourself that if it wasn’t this scenario or person that your ego mind was upset about, it would be something/someone else. Once you realize that the job of the ego is to protect and it does so by always looking for what’s wrong, missing, or how it’s being mistreated, you can begin to see a pattern in the thoughts it feeds you.</p>
<p>You can see how listening to this reactive mind solely can wreak havoc on your life and prevent you from ever truly feeling satisfied or happy.  No matter how much good comes into your life the reaction of the ego mind is likely to be entitlement, fear of loss, or arrogance.  The word gratitude is not in its vocabulary.  </p>
<p>On the other hand, you don’t necessarily want to ignore it, because if you do, it’s likely to rear its ugly head in another area of your life, with even greater force. Since it can’t be ignored, the ego’s messages must be looked at with detachment, love and a curious, open mind.</p>
<p><strong>Step Two:  Self-Honesty</strong></p>
<p>After examining your own thoughts and behaviors and bringing them to the light of your awareness, your next step is self-honesty.   Write down each thought and ask yourself, “What else is true?”  We live in a world of opposites so if it’s true that you are lazy or rude, for example, it’s equally true that you have the qualities of productivity and politeness within you.   The same is true for the people in your life.</p>
<p>We draw out what we focus on.  Because the chattering, conscious mind tends to have a very narrow focus, when we use self-honesty, we can look at our life situation from a wider vantage point.</p>
<p><strong>Questions to ask are:</strong></p>
<p>1.	What is my part in the situation?<br />
2.	What pre-existing beliefs/attitudes/memories am I bringing to the table that are influencing what is happening (whether I can see the connection consciously or not)?<br />
3.	How’s my energy?  Adjectives to describe your energy would be high/low, warm/cold, inviting/rejecting, dark/light.<br />
4.	When have I felt this way in the past?</p>
<p>The self-honesty step is not about blaming or fixing yourself but using your awareness and inquiry to discover more about yourself and your world.  Self-discovery is incredibly valuable and is a pre-cursor to any kind of change. Sometimes when we begin to look at our self honestly, it’s easy to judge ourselves and feel badly.  It’s important to remember to look at ourselves with the eyes of love and mercy, while not excusing behavior we wish to update and change.</p>
<p><strong>Step Three:  Lift Up Your Thinking<br />
</strong><br />
Uplifting your thought and subsequent behavior patterns is not easily accomplished by conscious willpower alone.  When you are entrenched in patterns of emotional eating, reacting negatively to others or feeling over-stressed, it’s not always easy to make the shifts you want to make.  Using steps one and two it becomes obvious that much of the distress we experience in life results from being too identified with the negative thinking of the reactive mind.</p>
<p>Although your conscious decision to change is essential, the real changes occur when you seek help beyond the chattering, reactive mind that is wired to protect you from danger (real or imagined) and access the well of love and wisdom in your deeper heart.</p>
<p>In completely contrast to the ego, the wise mind of the heart, the higher mind, is steeped in peace, safety and understanding. It knows at a deep level that all your needs are met, everything is happening exactly as it’s supposed to, nothing means what you think it does and you’re better off not taking anything personally; that you have enough, you’ll always be enough, you’re loved, loving and lovable, and that you are a part of an incredible mystery, connected to all, blessed by the gift of your precious life.</p>
<p>When you connect to your heart by placing your awareness in the center of your chest and breathing deeply into your core, you can relax and connect to an innate sense of safety.  When you are quiet and rest in the silence of the higher mind, you can hear what your next step is.  The chatter begins to subside and you can connect with the truth of your self, beyond your story, automatic behaviors and reactions.</p>
<p>Maximizing your happiness potential takes making a commitment to doing these three steps on a daily basis.  Self-hypnosis is a powerful tool to help you travel to a deeper place within yourself where you can begin to create a new, positive mental program.  Take a look at yourself with fresh eyes! 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Do you have a tendency to notice and magnify your mistakes when it comes to changing your eating habits for the better and make your successes seem small and insignificant?  When you do accomplish one of your goals such as eating smaller portions, eliminating certain foods, or taking up physical activity do you minimize that success by telling yourself that it’s probably only temporary? <a href="http://www.easywillpower.com/wp-content/uploads/images-12.jpeg"><img src="http://www.easywillpower.com/wp-content/uploads/images-12.jpeg" alt="" title="images-1" width="259" height="194" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4023" /></a></p>
<p>When it comes to tapping into the power of your wise mind for permanent weight loss and changing deep-seated behavior patterns, one of the traps that so many of us fall into is believing that change has to be difficult and also denying that it’s happening even when we have evidence.  Do you tell yourself, “Yes, it’s true that I haven’t had Soda Pop in a month, but how long can that last?” rather than applauding your feat? </p>
<p>You can’t stop yourself from thinking a thought, but you can become aware of a negative thought and intercept it with a positive idea that counteracts it.  </p>
<p>As soon as you notice that unconstructive notion crossing your mind – replace it with a positive statement such as, “I love drinking water. Water quenches my thirst more than any other beverage. I love how clean and light I feel when I give my body the water it craves.”  You can even add,  “Soda Pop is a gross, sugary, carbohydrate-filled beverage that only increases my desire for sweets and carbs.  My body only craves water.” </p>
<p>To increase your desire for water and your repulsion of Coke, make sure that your mental movies and feelings match your words.  Visualize the most repulsive image of soda-drinking that you can, and at the same time create a beautiful mental image of pure, clean, refreshing, energizing, healing water.  Feel how good the water would feel and how gross the Soda would feel if you really tuned into the true nature of both substances (beyond your addiction to the chemicals in the latter beverage). </p>
<p>For your subconscious mind to change its preferences, you must use imagery coupled with strong feeling.  If you find yourself thinking, “But I love Pepsi – I can’t live without it,” realize it’s the addiction talking and know that you must fake it until you make it.  But don’t despair – your subconscious mind can’t tell the difference between what’s real and what’s imagined and will soon actually send you signals to feel the way you are now pretending to feel.  Remember that it’s your subconscious mind that is ultimately in control of your life!  You must program it to do, think and say that which will lead you to the results you so desperately desire with your conscious, analytical mind.  I mean your desire to be thin, healthy, happy, at your ideal weight, confident and living your best life.</p>
<p>Not too long ago, I had the pleasure of offering a private weight loss seminar to a lovely group of nurses in Hackensack, New Jersey.  They were there because one of their fellow nurses had lost 40 lbs. and kept it off for one year after attending my weight loss seminar at Hoboken University Medical Center.  I was checking in with one of the ladies, named Sue, to see how she was doing.</p>
<p>Her response was, &#8220;I am doing ok.  I have kept off the initial 10 pounds that I dropped and I am definitely making better choices.  But, I find myself not listening to the reinforcement cd as diligently as I had in the beginning.&#8221;</p>
<p>The tone of Sue&#8217;s response felt flat.  I could hear her disappointment in herself.  It saddened me to realize that she was not experiencing the possible joy in her incredible feat.  Only ten pounds in two months?  And feeling stable with that?!  That is a fantastic accomplishment!   How often do you and I, like Sue, negate or make small our achievements and instead focus on what we haven&#8217;t yet done?   No wonder it&#8217;s hard for us to feel happy and positive.  We&#8217;re constantly convincing ourselves that whatever we are doing isn&#8217;t good enough.  One of the secrets to success is focusing on our successes!  It&#8217;s absolutely necessary, otherwise the subconscious mind thinks, &#8220;OK, I&#8217;m a failure, or I&#8217;m not good enough, so I&#8217;ll just do things that perpetuate that self-image.&#8221; </p>
<p>Taking off 10 lbs. in two months and keeping it off is a wonderful accomplishment.  I advised Sue to, &#8220;focus on how much better your clothes feel (and don&#8217;t rush to get a tighter size that eliminates that good feeling).</p>
<p>Feel how proud you can be of yourself when you acknowledge that you are still making healthier choices.  Instead of beating yourself up for the things you haven’t been doing, make a commitment to yourself to start listening to the reinforcement weight loss Subconscious Imprinting cd again, as you continue with your new positive eating and exercise behaviors.”</p>

<p><strong>Either way we are left feeling disempowered and defeated.  </strong></p>
<p>The truth is this: Diets don’t work because dieting is a psychologically temporary situation—the minute you go on a diet you are waiting to get off it.  The fact that you are painfully “sticking” to a diet is a recipe for failure because there is no doubt that ultimately you will succeed in breaking free from its perceived tyranny.</p>
<p>However, if it weren’t for that psychological flaw, dieting, in fact, would work, because what we are needing to succeed in living at our ideal weight is balance, structure, and I’m sorry to use the dreaded word: rules.  </p>
<p>In fact, <strong>studies point out that it doesn’t even matter which diet you are on—if you stick with it, you will lose weight!</strong></p>
<p>Think about it. Don’t you stick to rules in all the areas of your life where you are successful?  </p>
<p>We may not like it, but if we don’t want to get hurt, we follow the rules of the road when driving.  Because we want to keep our jobs, we adhere to office policies, whether we agree with them or not.  Even though we may feel like punching someone who makes us angry, generally the rule that warns against physical aggression holds us back.</p>
<p>So how can we think that we don’t need to follow rules if we want to live healthfully and at our ideal weight?  If we choose to eat whatever we want, whenever we want, without consistent, sustained activity, despite the fact that we know that the only way to lose weight is to eat less and exercise more, we are going to get results that are the opposite of what we want.</p>
<p>It’s funny that many of us will spend years researching weight loss, seeking weight loss advice and even resorting to bariatric, gastric bypass or lap-band surgery, even while having the full, conscious understanding that weight loss is only achieved by one means: eating less food than you are burning off.</p>
<p>There is no other formula.  The issue then becomes, why is it that you know this to be true and yet continue to look for some mysterious solution or answer to your problem of carrying around excess weight?</p>
<p>The answer is that you have not accepted the undisputable facts because you are certain that if you ate less, selected healthier foods and increased activity you would feel deprived, denied and unhappy.</p>
<p>What if that assumption were false?  I have worked with thousands of people all over the country to help them lose weight with Gastric Bypass Hypnosis Surgery, private hypnosis weight loss sessions, hospital based seminars and my at home weight loss system.  I can’t tell you how many times people who have lost even over 100 lbs. told me the process was easily and effortless!</p>
<p>How is this possible?  Losing weight is easy only when you change your thinking about yourself and food.  When your thoughts about food and yourself change, your behavior naturally changes, and it doesn’t have to be a struggle.   </p>
<p>Success is only possible when you follow certain rules.  The difference is that once your subconscious thinking shifts, following the rules you already know, consciously, will work becomes second nature.  </p>
<p>The reason why some people describe their experience with self-hypnosis and weight loss as a “miracle” is because there is seemingly no effort when it comes to following the rules.  </p>
<p>However, you can be assured that they are only losing weight, not because any “miracle” has occurred, but because they are eating less and exercising more.</p>
<p>The only way, I have found, for rules to be effective, is when you decide on them yourself. If they come from outside of you, most likely you will want to rebel against them.  I encourage you to make rules for yourself that fit for you, your lifestyle and your health condition.</p>
<p>Here are some basic rules that work for people who live consistently at a healthy weight that you may want to adapt or make your own:</p>
<p>1.	<strong>Eat only when you are physically hungry.</strong></p>
<p>Your body is a holy temple, not a garbage pail. Think of putting food in your body the way you put gasoline in your car. Food has a purpose and that is to give you energy. Never overstuff yourself or eat when you are not physically hungry.</p>
<p>How do you know when you are hungry?  Some people hear their stomach growling, but many others experience symptoms such as irritability, weakness, dizziness, feeling spacey and shaky, or having an inability to focus or concentrate.</p>
<p>Honor your body’s wisdom and listen to the way it is communicating with you.  Never eat for emotional reasons. Let yourself feel your emotions fully but don’t eat to numb them.  </p>
<p>Write them out, talk to a trusted friend, or use music, art, movement or gardening to calm yourself, but never eat because you are bored, lonely, tired, angry, worried, sad or afraid.</p>
<p>2.	<strong>Eat the foods that nourish you but that you enjoy, in a balanced way.</strong></p>
<p>Food is meant to nourish and sustain you. However, that doesn’t mean that the food you eat should taste bad. On the contrary, food is one of the pleasures in life.  The good news is your taste for food can change.  </p>
<p>Julie and her Mother, Carrie, used my hypnosis program as a jumpstart to losing 113 lbs and 55 lbs.  The next day after starting the program, Julie told me she was craving spinach and Carrie was craving carrots.  Those new cravings broke their usual eating patterns!</p>
<p>I never thought that I’d prefer a salad to a pizza, but I do. The important secret is that I prepare the salad so that it tastes REALLY good – there’s no “diet” food there!  I use my favorite lettuces and chopped vegetables, homemade olive and flax seed oil dressing, topped with fresh roasted chicken thighs, blue cheese or goat cheese, delicious roasted nuts, herbs and sea salt.  </p>
<p>The key to success is to never deprive yourself.  Make sure the foods you select are healthy foods from the earth with high quality protein, but prepare them in a way that makes them scrumptious to you!</p>
<p>Minimize or eliminate processed, empty-calorie foods and liquids that only increase hunger and perpetuate food addiction.</p>
<p>3.	<strong>Do some activity every day.</strong></p>
<p>You may enjoy going to the gym and having a good work out, but if joining the fitness center isn’t for you, don’t use that as an excuse to be a couch potato.</p>
<p>No matter what your health condition, you can probably do something.  Most people can manage water exercise and that’s a great place to start.</p>
<p>Reframe your thinking about exercise. You don’t have to struggle and suffer. Instead, remember how when you were a child you used to love to run and play?  Were you upset when the bell rang for recess?  Of course, not!  You wanted to move because you were intuitively connected to your natural inclination to shake off stress physically and recharge your battery with activity.</p>
<p>Now you simply need to get back in touch with that natural joy of movement.  Think of something you enjoy: perhaps a walk in nature, or dancing to some of your favorite music.  Maybe you’d like to be more social and play tennis or go bowling.  Are there some kids in your life that would like to roller blade with you?  The possibilities are endless!  Instead of forcing yourself to exercise, you can begin to look forward to the time of day when you “get to move your body!”  </p>
<p>There’s no way to get around following rules when it comes to being successful in all areas of your life.  The key to losing weight and keeping it off lies in changing your thinking.  There is no “miracle” out there—no pill, no surgery and no diet that can do it for you.  </p>
<p>Even people who have had gastric bypass surgery and had their physiology actually altered can grow their stomach right back if they don’t first change their thinking.  </p>
<p>When you change your thinking about yourself, food and your life, you can create weight loss rules that work for you.  Then you can stop searching for that “miracle” weight loss gimmick, and realize that any weight loss aid whether it’s hypnosis, an eating plan, a support group, or a gym membership, is only a tool to help you attain the key to success:  a new mind-set that allow you to love and value yourself enough to make the necessary shifts to lose weight permanently and change your life!</p>
